I've just downloaded the update on my iPhone and iPad and i noticed that on the iPad (not iPhone) in the General Setings now there is now a multitouch gestures button to enable this function. It suports 4 fingers up to show the app switcher, 4 fingers to the sides to switch apps and 5 fingers to the centre to go to the home screen.
It works great!
I just updated on my Ipad 2, and I don't see this option for multitouch gestures.

It was an employee. You don't need to have 'just a hunch' when most of the media reports confirm this. The employee was fired.
I can understand not reading the whole thread, but not reading anything and preferring to make up your own version of events is kind of lazy.

Now that Apple have got an entire range of consumer machines ( laptops, desktops etc ) that can compete in terms of performance against their Window-PC counterparts, I'd expect nothing less - and expect the share to continue.
( Really - G4s had their day years ago ).

I don't want to burst your bubble but Apple sell their tracks in a lossy format. Apple's format for iTunes purcases is a different beast to Flac.
Yeah--open mouth insert foot--you know what they say about assumptions. Oh well, still a better bit rate so I guess I'll just be satisfied with that--or maybe I'll just save a bit of money at Amazon. Thanks for pointing out my poor assumptions. :o

I would be really disappointed to see a metal backing like iPod Touch has. My previous iPods from the past are so jacked up on the backside with scratches and dents. I know I'm not alone with this.
I'd prefer if the iPhone retained a glass backing like on the iPhone 4; I think it's just so sexy. But if they were going to move to metal I'd prefer an iPad-style backing.

The iPad has already blown away the "Apple makes overpriced stuff myth" out of the water. If you are still clinging on to this, let it go and find another useful argument.
Most of the products in Apple's line up are competitively priced or more affordable than its competitors...and don't compare iMac's to desktop boxes it's an all-in-one a different form factor.
Apple makes insane profits because their products sell...in extraordinary numbers not because they are overpriced. Fact is if Apple only makes income because of the premium, people will not continue to buy them if they don't work well.
If you want to dispute what I said, try making your own product, design a pretty logo for it and sell it at a premium. See how that works out for you.

Most people even today just don't have the internet needed to really push something Apple would want to get into when it comes to the TV that is why the Apple TV is still a hobby for Apple.
That said maybe they are looking to see what Google does with their Gigabyte fiber deployment. If we started to see real speeds something like a 4k apple tv could become a reality. Give me that and retianal display and drop all the 3d gimmick, I just don't really care for it.

Any thoughts on peripherals? I know new keyboards/mice/trackpads sometimes accompany an iMac refresh. Maybe we'll see the trackpad come standard now, in anticipation of Lion's new multitouch gestures. Any of you backlit-keyboard dreamers out there hopeful? (Personally I'd just like to see a wireless, non-backlit keyboard with black keys, to match the notebook keyboards.)

Are people still thinking this is coming out next week? There haven't been any other updates since this story was released and I'm starting to doubt it's going to happen on Tuesday. I'd love to know what GPU the 27" is going to have.
I'm thinking the same thing. No new iMac news all week! Makes me think it's not coming tuesday. But who knows. Wish we'd get a spec list or something. I'm guessing it's not a huge overhaul of design. Just an innards update with sandy bridge and the latest desktop processors. Hopefully some muscle in the mobile video card options.
The upgrade that I would absolutely love is a dedicated ssd for OS and frequently used apps (like a 64 gb or 128 gb drive). And then a 1tb platter for storage.

If I were Steve, I would be cranking out products, and really pushing hard to get stuff like a full on Mac media center, next gen iPods, iPhones, iTablets ect. ect..
Just because MS is kind of in limbo right now, not really doing anything big, Gates just stepped down...now is the time to really move in on their territory.
Maybe that's exactly what they're doing, but it seems like the big product announcements have dropped off completley....the last big announcement was the Macbook, which was a no brainer...high fi ect....
Hopefully they are all going mad scientist in the Apple labs cooking something really special up, and are just going to unload them all at once....we'll see...

The site is completely passive: it could have been implemented solely in HTML. There was no upside for the website owner in implementing his site in Flash. The downside is clear: at the very least, there are browser users on 120M+ devices that can't view the website. If you read Adobe's blog entry about their new Flash->HTML5 converter (http://blogs.adobe.com/jnack/2010/10/adobe-demos-flash-to-html5-conversion-tool.html), you'll see they get it: the Adobe staffer notes the advantage of having to generate only HTML5: "Cut the cost of targeting multiple runtimes."
Apple is serving to simplify the browser experience for everyone. It's hardly a surprise that some extremists are upset that their sacred cows are being dealt out of the game. They resort to some absurd name-calling (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=11453056&postcount=43&highlight=communist+dictator). Those nonsensical complaints will wind down in the next few months. As the Adobe blogger noted (http://blogs.adobe.com/jnack/2010/10/adobe-demos-flash-to-html5-conversion-tool.html), Flash Professional used to export Java. Now, the tools will generate HTML5. Life goes on.
If there are outstanding Flash apps for iOS, they can be packaged as iOS apps (http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/packagerforiphone/) and distributed through the App Store. I'm personally skeptical those packaged apps will ever be popular on iOS devices. The point is that the marketplace will get to decide: the developers and the users will have a choice.

I'm willing to bet you'll see Amazon's share price take a jump again as the media starts to say that Amazon is going to steal iTunes market share. Wall Street just loves market share. I think they just enjoy the controversy. They'll connect Android's growth rate with lowered mp3 costs and figure through some immediate impact that Amazon will steal away iPhone and iTunes customers away in the long run and pull them to the Android platform.
I say that it's not wise to just lower prices if you're going to lose money on every sale. I still believe Wall Street will let Amazon get away with it. I'll stick with Apple's pricing model since I'm sure they know how to balance their books the best. Since the record companies approved of Apple's tiered pricing model, I think Amazon might be sticking its neck out again if this new pricing model isn't approved by the record companies.

You cant really call what Apple has a cloud. Clouds are designed to span across multiple geographic locations...Apple has 1 datacenter, and zero experience running a cloud service. MobileMe runs on collocated equipment in someone else's datacenter.
Amazon on the other hand are excellent at working with the cloud.
